API Portal Overview

Welcome to Career Key’s API documentation for developers and UI designers! We’re glad to partner with you to help youth and adults make the best career and education decisions. 

We know that every organization has a different approach to product design, so we’ve designed our APIs to give you maximum flexibility while maintaining the core value of Career Key’s product, Career Key Discovery® (CKD).

CKD’s core value is to help users, in about 10 minutes, to:

• Know themselves – assess their personality and interests and learn why it matters;

• Explore and find their best fit career and education options – where they will thrive or be challenged at work or school; and

• Make good decisions about their career and education direction. 

Because CKD contains a “formal assessment” used in professional school and career counseling with published research behind it, there are restrictions on content use and display that you may not have seen with other assessments. But don’t worry, they’re straightforward and easy to implement.

CKD may seem simple and include more content than may be customary (or desirable) in some UX designs. We’ve spent nearly 30 years refining Career Key’s approach, including hiring one of the top UX firms, EightShapes, to design CKD. They helped us display what we know is the best application of Dr. John Holland’s Theory of Career Choice.

For that reason, we encourage you to follow CKD’s design, in both desktop and handset versions. Multiple (and continuing) usability studies show our success, but like any product, there is room for improvement. We always welcome your feedback and questions!
